1/4 c. flour
1/2 c. water
1 egg, slightly beaten
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 tsp. baking powder
1 lg. onion
In bowl stir together above ingredients until smooth. Pour 1 quart oil into deep pan or skillet, 1/2 inch deep; fill no more than 1/3 full. Heat over medium heat to 375. Fry 2 or 3 minutes, turning once, until golden. Pack into 9x5-inch loaf pan (pack down lightly). Bake in preheated oven, 375, for 25 minutes. Turn out onto baking sheet and cover with foil. Bake 20 minutes or until crisp. Serve hot. One large onion makes two very full pans. You can also use this batter on green peppers, mushrooms, zucchini, etc. Cut in slices.
