Appetizer: Stuffed Mushrooms

1 lb. fresh med. mushrooms
1 sm. onion (chopped)
1/2 sm. green pepper (chopped)
3 T. margarine
1 1/2 c. soft bread crumbs
1/2 tsp. thyme
1/4 tsp. turmeric
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 T. margarine

Heat oven to 350.  Cut stems from mushrooms.  Chop enough stem to measure 1/3 cup.  Cook and stir mushroom stems, onion and green pepper in 3 tablespoons margarine until tender (5 minutes); remove from heat.  Stir in bread crumbs, salt, thyme, turmeric and pepper.  Heat 1 tablespoon margarine in shallow baking dish until melted.  Fill mushroom caps with stuffing mixture; place mushrooms filled sides up in baking dish.  Bake for 15 minutes.  Set to broil or 550.  Broil 3 to 4 inches from heat for 2 minutes.  Serve hot.
